ARCUS — Bridge Failure Research

ARCUS Atlas record

Ponte di via Stalingrado

Collapse of the Ponte di via Stalingrado in Bologna in 2001. A retrospective report quoting contemporary coverage states that the 1930s bridge subsided/collapsed next to a construction site where excavation was underway at the base of the retaining wall. The exact structural mechanism is not available; excavation/construction works and the abutment/retaining-wall area are therefore classified as probable.
