Ponte di Via Volturno

Partial collapse of the Via Volturno overpass over the western ring road (tangenziale Ovest) in Brescia on 24 August 2022, caused by the impact of a heavy goods vehicle transporting a crane whose boom struck the underside of the bridge deck. Five reinforced concrete beams were destroyed in the impact. The structure, one of the most heavily trafficked crossings in the city with approximately 80,000 vehicles per day, was closed immediately and the city traffic network was severely disrupted. No fatalities or injuries were reported. Temporary shoring works involving 250 props were installed and load tests were carried out before partial reopening.
