Ponte n. 167 A14
Total collapse of bridge no. 167 on the A14 motorway at km 235+800 near Camerano (Ancona, Marche) on 9 March 2017 at approximately 13:30, during lifting operations as part of the construction of a third motorway lane. The temporary support structure failed, causing the bridge span to fall onto the open motorway carriageway below. Two people died — Emidio Diomede (60) and Antonella Viviani (54) from Spinetoli (Ascoli Piceno) — whose car was crushed by the falling deck while travelling towards the hospital; three Romanian construction workers were injured. The judicial investigation involved 22 individuals and four companies (Autostrade per l'Italia, Spea Engineering, Pavimental and Delabech), with charges of culpable homicide, culpable collapse and workplace safety violations. The MIT appointed an independent inspection commission. The engineering expert appointed by the prosecution concluded that risks had been systematically underestimated in both the design and execution phases.
