Bridge over Oglio river

Total collapse of a national road bridge over the Oglio river on the SS42 del Tonale e della Mendola near Capo di Ponte (Brescia, Lombardy) on 27 June 2005. One person was killed and four were injured when the bridge structure failed. The collapse was attributed to design and construction defects. Capo di Ponte is a municipality in Val Camonica whose name derives from its historical position at the head of a bridge over the Oglio river; the SS42 is the main valley artery connecting the Brescia plain with the Alpine passes. The Procura di Brescia opened an investigation.
