Bridge over Rio Santa Lucia

Partial collapse of the bridge over the Rio Santa Lucia on the SS195 Sulcitana national road connecting Cagliari to Capoterra and Pula (Sardinia) on 10 October 2018 at approximately 17:30, triggered by the overflow of the Rio Santa Lucia during an extreme rainfall event (250 mm/24h at Capoterra, half the annual average). ANAS had closed the SS195 in the hours prior to the collapse due to a large sinkhole that had opened at the Rumianca jetty area. The collapse cut the national road in two, isolating the Capoterra area. Capoterra was already known for a deadly 2008 flood. The broader event caused 1 fatality and the evacuation of 57 residents from the area. No injuries directly attributed to this specific collapse. Esondazione del Rio Santa Lucia con rottura degli argini: le acque scalzarono la sede stradale e la corrente asporto' un tratto del ponte, tagliando in due la SS195 (fonti ANSA/stampa nazionale).
