Cavalcavia XXV Aprile

Partial collapse of the Cavalcavia XXV Aprile in Novara (Piemonte) on 9 October 2022, involving the detachment of a retaining wall section. The structure, which had shown signs of foundation deterioration since at least 2013 and had been subject to emergency consolidation works in 2015, was not among the bridges flagged as high-risk by the municipal authorities. The carriageway had already been reduced to two lanes. One vehicle was involved but no serious injuries were reported. The event prompted immediate closure and renewed debate on bridge maintenance across the city.
