Ponte di Oloè

Total collapse of the Ponte di Oloè on the SP46 provincial road between Oliena and Dorgali (Nuoro, Sardinia) on 18 November 2013, caused by the catastrophic flooding of the Cedrino river during Ciclone Cleopatra. Inspector Luca Tanzi (40), a police officer responding to the emergency with three colleagues escorting an ambulance, was killed when the bridge spalletta collapsed suddenly at approximately 18:30, plunging his Land Rover into the void. His three colleagues survived. The bridge was placed under judicial sequestration; subsequent works were found to use substandard materials. A 30-person trial for culpable homicide and disastro colposo was opened; a second trial addressed the fraudulent reconstruction. The bridge was not reopened for over 10 years. Cedimento del terrapieno/rilevato in corrispondenza del ponte durante la piena del Cedrino (ciclone Cleopatra); il vecchio rilevato ostruiva il deflusso (fonte ANSA/Regione Sardegna).
