Viadotto Madonna del Monte

Total collapse of the northbound carriageway of the Viadotto Madonna del Monte on the A6 Torino-Savona motorway near Savona (Liguria) on 24 November 2019 at approximately 14:05, caused by a landslide of over 15,000 m³ that detached from an adjacent hillside not classified as at-risk in the regional hydrogeological risk maps and struck a bridge pillar, bringing down approximately 20-40 metres of bridge deck. A tragedy was narrowly averted when security guard Daniele Cassol stopped oncoming traffic — including a bus — on the brink of the collapsed section. No fatalities or injuries were reported. The bridge was rebuilt in an extraordinary 88 days by Autostrada dei Fiori and reopened in February 2020, becoming a symbol of rapid infrastructure recovery.
