Bridge over Simeri river
Total collapse of a provincial/regional bridge over the Simeri river near Simeri Crichi (Catanzaro, Calabria) on 10 March 2010, triggered by hydraulic forces during the intense winter rainfall that caused widespread flooding across the Catanzaro province. The Simeri river, flowing through the Catanzaro hinterland towards the Ionian coast, frequently floods during intense rainfall events. No fatalities or injuries were reported.
