Bridge over Sangro river

Total collapse of a national road bridge on the SS16 Adriatica over the Sangro river near Torino di Sangro Marina (Chieti, Abruzzo) on 24 October 2004, triggered by hydraulic forces during intense autumn rainfall causing the Sangro to flood. The Sangro is a major Abruzzese river flowing into the Adriatic Sea; its lower valley is prone to flooding during autumn and winter storms. No fatalities or injuries were reported.
